Pilates Band

Pilates students who have started to incorporate a Pilates band in their classes usually begin to notice an immediate stretching and toning of their muscles.

Some of the benefits that a Pilates band can bring include:

• Limb support – Many people find it easier to do the exercises on a mat if they have a Pilates band they can use. These bands are especially helpful when doing leg circles and sidekicks.

• Intense stretch – A Pilates band can give you a more intense stretch because it supports you when doing leg circles and improves the maneuverability of your thighs and hamstrings.

Those who do not have much experience using a Pilates band may be unsure of which band they should use, as there are a few different types of bands.

The tensions of these bands are easy to decipher because the tension depends on the color of the band. For example, most of the time the lighter colors (like yellow) are used to show a lighter tension, whereas the darker colors (like black or blue) are used to show more tension.

Most people are best off using a green-colored Pilates band. These are usually the more moderate tensions and suit the needs of most people. Handles can be tied in these bands to make them easier to hold and work with.

As far as the types of exercises you can do with a Pilates band are concerned, leg circles are one of the most popular. This exercise is done by lying on your back with one leg extended on the mat. The band should then be hooked around the other foot and then extended straight up (or as much as you can) until you feel a stretch on your hamstring.
