If you are choosing a Pilates mat, there are a few things that you will want to look for. Knowing the particulars will help you get the mat that is best suited for you.

• Look for a mat that will suit your height. Pilates exercises require you to do a lot of stretching. Because of this, some people find that as they are stretching, the mat is not long enough for them. By finding a long mat, you will be able to stay comfortable.

• Look for a Pilates mat that is able to be folded up and easily carried along. This may not be real important if you do all of your Pilates exercises at home, but if you take the mat to you as you are exercising at a gym or studio, you are going to want to look for a mat that folds easily and is not too heavy. If you are just going to workout in your home, it may be better to just look for mats that are thicker.

• Look for mats with multiple uses. Having a mat for doing Pilates is good, but if you are going to spend the money on a mat, you might as well buy a mat that can be used for different things as well. A yoga mat can be used for both yoga as well as Pilates. Even if you do not do both exercises, you may be able start one of them thanks to the fact that you have the mat.

• Find a mat that is easy to clean. You are likely to sweat quite a bit when you use your Pilates mat. Because of this, you are going to want to find a mat that is easy to clean with soap and water. There are some exotic materials that are more eco-friendly, but these are more difficult to clean. The easiest-to-clean mats are made of plastics or are polyurethane-based.
